Soils & mixes for Perth gardens
Perth's natural sand grows very little on its own — the right imported mix is what makes lawns and beds work. We stock lawn top-dressing mix, garden and vegie mixes and screened topsoil, all in clean one-tonne bulk bags.
Every mix is chosen for WA conditions: free-draining but with enough organic matter and clay to actually hold water and nutrients in sandy ground.
What we stock
- Lawn top-dressing mix (spring's best-seller)
- Garden soil mix for new beds
- Vegie-bed mix, compost-rich
- Screened topsoil for levelling and filling
- Bagged specialty mixes and composts

FAQs
Soils & Mixes — questions
- How much soil do I need to top-dress a lawn?
- A standard top-dress is about 10 mm deep — roughly 1 m³ per 100 m² of lawn. One bulk bag handles a typical Perth front lawn; the soil calculator does the exact maths for your area.
- What's the difference between topsoil and garden mix?
- Topsoil is screened natural soil — good for levelling and filling. Garden mix is blended with compost and organics for planting straight into. Don't pay garden-mix prices to fill a hole, and don't plant into plain fill.
- Why does water just run off my Perth soil?
- Perth sand becomes water-repellent (hydrophobic) as organic coatings dry. Soil wetter breaks the repellency, and digging in compost or a clay-based improver fixes it long-term — see our sandy-soil guide.
