- How deep should decorative pebbles be laid?
- 40–50 mm over weed mat for full coverage that stays put — thinner shows the mat through gaps, deeper wastes stone and rolls underfoot. One tonne covers roughly 10–12 m² at that depth.
- Do I need weed mat under pebbles?
- Yes — geofabric weed mat stops pebbles sinking into Perth sand and blocks most weeds, while still letting water through to tree roots. Skipping it is why old pebble beds go patchy and weedy.
- Pea gravel or river pebbles for paths?
- Pea gravel locks together better underfoot and suits paths; larger river pebbles look better in beds and dry creek features but roll when walked on. Many gardens use both — gravel to walk, pebbles to look at.
