- Steel — it holds a line for decades in sand, and surface rust on raw steel is a look, not a failure. Timber edging in ground contact is the shortest-lived; if you want timber, treat it as a 5–8 year finish.
- How do I edge a curved garden bed?
- Flexible poly edging or light-gauge steel both bend to smooth curves — mark the line with a hose first, pin as you go, and join on the straightest section, never mid-curve.
- Does weed mat actually stop weeds?
- Under pebbles and gravel, yes — it blocks the seed bank below. It won't stop wind-blown seeds germinating on top, so a quick surface pluck once a season keeps stone beds clean.
